Edited to include both dash images.
I will concede that the dash is better than the 2010ish Accord it replaced.
How is this interior okay as the dash and central stack are gigantic expanses of textured plastic that eat up huge amounts of interior space.
The nav uses both screens at the same time to deliver directions, often showing the route nav and an image of the exit on the lower screen and the actual turn distance on the top screen. I was very glad I didn’t have to use said nav.
Stock image below for the 2016 interior, but it is the same color as my inlaws interior.

Because it’s a Honda and not a Rolls-Royce.

I see nothing wrong with that, honestly (then again, I drive a 9th gen Civic and I like my dashboard).

I think thats pretty cool for Navi. And im sure you can adjust the settings to make it one screen. And after sitting in all of cars in its class, IMO the Accord is right at the top with the Optima. Camry and Mazda6 felt cheap (and Mazda took Merc’s idea of just slapping on a tablet), the Legacy shows Subaru still can’t make a nice interior, Altima super meh, and Fusion isn’t bad but needs more.

I agree it just struck me as an odd layout, especially with the MFD in the center of the gigantic the speedometer. But I am used to my 13 Jetta which only has the one LCD and the MFD display is between the speedometer and the tachometer.
As I have started looking at what my jetta replacements might be I would agree with your assessments about certain brands *cough* Subaru *cough* who need to get better at interiors. I hadn’t noticed the Mazda issue as I was only looking at the “new” CX-5 not anything else.

Yeah Mazda and Merc (and some Audi’s) just have a tablet stuck to/pop up from the dash. Some people like it, I am one of those who doesn’t. To me it is let’s just put an iPad here and... done.
I will say VW’s interiors are clean, sharp, and functional. Most others like Toyota or Subaru they ether make it as cheap as possible or try too hard.
And to come to think of it I don’t think I sat in any VW car recently, probably need to do that.
